Bestowed Aug ’14 + Discount Code

Hey lovelies I have a new subscription unboxing for you! This one is called Bestowed and I had recently found a deal through livingsocial to give this sub a try for 6 months at a pretty reduced rate. Unfortunately that deal is no longer available but there is still a discount code for you at the end of the post! 🙂 This sub is curated by a nutritionist and has healthy snacks and foods included each month.

Type: Food Box

Cost: $20 a month or less for longer subs

What: Monthly subscription that focuses on healthy foods and snacks selected by nutritionist Heather Bauer

The box came in a little crunched and came through normal USPS, it also came in pretty late for the month but i’m not sure if that is because of when I redeemed my voucher or if that’s how they ship monthly. Inside is a basic card that goes into the theme and what the products are (no retail value) and some tips for those items. The theme for this month is back to school and includes items that are nutritious and convenient so you can stay healthy through busy schedules.

Funley’s Super Crackers in Cheddar n’ Stuff and Cornbread n’ Stuff (value $1.23): These two bags are the perfect size to toss into my bag to eat with my lunch to get some crunch without the guilt. These were chosen for the box because they the first and only superfood veggie crackers…yup..there’s sweet potato stuffed in my cornbread and broccoli stuffed in my cheese..i’m not sure how I feel about this. But they don’t have trans fats, preservatives, no artificial anything, and no high fructose corn syrup so that’s a plus. I also received a coupon for $1.00 off and 4oz pack or larger but there are no stores even remotely close to Florida that sells these soooo it is pretty much useless.

Good Greens Bars in Chocolate Raspberry (value $2.83): I won’t lie i’m not a huge raspberry flavoring fan but this wellness bar is a powerhouse in nutritional stats, at 10g protein, 5g of fiber, and 9g of fat, and 100% of your daily fruits and vegetables, this is a great meal bar for a boost of energy. It also has probiotics, antioxidants, and is low glycemic..this could be interesting.

Maia Yogurt (value $1.99): I’ve never heard of this brand before which makes sense since there are barely any stores that carry it in central Florida but there is one store not too far from school that does..I don’t know if i’ll go out of my way to get a free yogurt but who knows. This greek yogurt is less sweet and only has 5 ingredients, but i’ll never go out of my way for this on a regular basis.

Ocean’s Halo Seaweed Chips in Hot & Spicy ( value $2): So i’ve never had seaweed chips before and while they look interesting i’m a little worried about the flavor. I like spice but I don’t like heat and the fact that the bag says holy chili and fiery spices is terrifying. Apparently seaweed is a powerful superfood packed with protein, vitamins, minerals, and without trans fats or GMOS. I’ll try them but only with a glass of milk nearby. They also included a $1.00 coupon for a 3oz bag of these and it says I should be able to find them at Target so I might check out their other flavors.

Orgain Kids Nutritional Shake in Chocolate (value $2.50): I actually received one of these in my conscious box as well and while I haven’t tried them yet the nutritional information is pretty promising for a shake. If it has 23 vitamins and minerals and tastes incredible like they claim, for kids or not, I will be totally purchasing these. Hey, according to Walt Disney, too many people grow up.

Plum Organics Mashups in Berry (value $1.81): This fruit squeeze is made out of 100% organic fruit and are made without any artificial ingredients or added sweeteners. I’ve never had this brand before but I love these things, they are so easy to toss in the fridge and grab when you want something fruity. I’m really excited over this one.

Suja Juice (value $9.05): I know nothing of this brand but they are fruit and vegetable juices that are processed by cold pressure to remove harmful bacteria. I’m assuming these are cleansing juices by the coupon for a free bottle. Surprisingly these are available at my job but I haven’t seen them before so i’ll have to take a look the next time I work!

WaterJel Unburn Sunburn Relief (value $1.99): I am a little surprised they are sending this out towards the end of summer instead of before but this instant pain relief will be perfect for me. It says it can be used for insect bites, sunburn, minor burns, and minor skin irritations and since i’m out in the field a lot for my entomology class and at the zoo, this will be awesome for my bag. I know this might sound weird but it smells like spearmint gum! Lol

Peeled Snacks Apple Clusters (value $1.99): These dried organic apple pieces are rolled into apple clusters and i’m interested in trying these. I love dried apple chips and so hopefully these will taste just as good!

Mrs Meyer’s Clean Day Dish Soap in Lemon Verbena (value $0.86): I’ve seen this brand before in some of my local stores but haven’t tried it yet. This is a better alternative for dish soap because it is biodegradable, not tested on animals, and leaves less of a footprint on the environment. Since I am a biology major, this makes me happy, hopefully it cleans dishes that are not put in the dishwasher, nicely.

I received a value of $26.25 for a $20 box, since I actually paid much cheaper than that then I feel like this box was okay value wise but if I paid full price I would be pretty ticked. The amount of samples are nice but the sizes are small and since these items are mostly if not all close to organic the retail value of these are a little overpriced in my opinion compared to their “value” and while I do like to try some organic items this isn’t a super necessity for me. With that said, I am happy with this box, most of everything will be used and i’m excited for but I don’t think I would pay for this sub without a discount of some sort. This is also my first box and have 5 more boxes for my sub so they do have time to impress me, this could just be a “so/so” box.
